Scripture: For whom the LORD loves He reproves, even as a father, the son in whom he delights (Proverbs 3:12).
Today’s Thought: Accepting correction is never easy. Because we’re human, our natural response is to make excuses and defend ourselves. Just look at Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. If we’re wise, however, we will learn from our mistakes, accept discipline and reproof, and improve our performance.
The best way to respond to correction is with courtesy and professionalism. When criticized, avoid being defensive; don’t lash back. Instead, listen to the comments carefully and accept the information graciously. When you are wrong, quickly admit your error and resolve to correct your work. Thank your supervisor for being willing to point out areas in your performance that need improvement.
When you display a humble attitude, your boss will be amazed and impressed. Willingness to learn and to adjust your work habits will increase your value to the company, and your job satisfaction will increase as well. Although it’s never easy to submit to discipline and correction, if you learn to accept constructive criticism, your performance will improve.
Poverty and shame will come to him who neglects discipline, but he who regards reproof will be honored (Proverbs 13:18).
If you learn to accept constructive criticism, your performance will improve.
