Do you establish policies about things that don’t really matter?

Scripture: You shall not oppress a hired servant (Deuteronomy 24:14).

Today’s Thought: Because every individual is unique, staff members will operate using different methods. In our efforts to standardize procedures and maintain quality, we may end up establishing policies to govern things that don’t really matter. The result is that our employees and demoralized, we end up fighting unnecessary battles, and we run the risk of losing our focus on the things that really count.

When developing policies and procedures, identify issues that will most greatly affect your customers and your company. If things come down to matters of style or preference, learn to ignore the little things and focus on the desired outcome instead of the steps to get there.

If the right priorities are being accomplished, good results are being achieved, and your customers are well served, celebrate your success and don’t split hairs over policies and procedures.

Keeping away from strife is an honor for a man, but any fool will quarrel (Proverbs 20:3).

When developing policies and procedures, identify issues that will most greatly affect your customers and your company.
