Do you express irritation to coworkers or show anger at work?

Scripture: For vexation slays the foolish man, and anger kills the simple (Job 5:2).

Today’s Thought: When we allow ourselves to become frustrated or angry at work, we harm ourselves more than others. Medical evidence has shown that anger causes health problems, including an increased risk of heart attacks. Also, when we explode with rage, we destroy relationships and damage our ability to work with others.

If you have been offended or wronged by a coworker, ask God for the grace to forgive the other person just as God has forgiven you. Then, if further action is necessary, calmly go to the offender and state your concerns clearly and objectively. Most anger builds up when we fail to take this important step. You may find that your frustration is based on a simple misunderstanding. Work together with your colleague to reach a mutually beneficial resolution. If you approach your coworker with humility, there should be no need for anger or defensiveness in return.

When we replace our frustration with forgiveness and our anger with constructive action, we short-circuit the escalation process. In the end, everyone benefits from a peaceful workplace.

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit, than he who captures the city (Proverbs 16:32).

Replacing anger with constructive action short-circuits the escalation process.
