Do you manage your company’s cash flow by not paying your bills on time?

Scripture: Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come back, and tomorrow I will give it,” when you have it with you (Proverbs 3:27-28).

Today’s Thought: It can be tempting not to pay your bills on time when you know that a vendor will not immediately call to collect. And when your own collections are slow, it’s even easier to let your payables slide for a while. Some would argue that this is good cash management, but withholding payment is never pleasing to God.

If you want to be obedient to Scripture, follow through on paying invoices within the prescribed terms. Don’t string your suppliers along. If you cant meet their requirements, ask to change the terms of sale. But don’t make a promise you don’t intend to keep.

When you pay on time, you enhance your position to bargain for the best prices, ask for increased service, and negotiate the best terms. When you’ve proven yourself reliable, your vendor will want to perform and meet your needs.

There is one who withholds what is justly due, but it results only in want (Proverbs 11:24).
