Today’s Thought: A time-honored tactic of salespeople who call on our company is to flatter us with our importance, talk up the success of our business, or comment on what astute businesspeople we are.
Don’t let flattery get to you. Instead, direct the conversation away from the fluff and back to what the sales representative has to offer. Maintain a pleasant demeanor, but focus on your company’s needs and how the vendor can facilitate the best product, price and service.
Make it clear what you need and don’t need from the business relationship, and ask the salesperson to make specific commitments.
Maintain your objectivity and stay focused on your goal, and you will help your company grow and prosper.
With her many persuasions she entices him; with her flattering lips she seduces him (Proverbs 7:21).
