Scripture: There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
Today’s Thought: In your desire to satisfy your customers’ needs and expectations, you may commit to deadlines that you later realize you can’t keep. You can avoid those situations by planning and communication.
Next time you receive a job from a customer, figure out an accurate time line before you commit to a delivery date. Start by identifying the necessary steps for completion and factor in the work effort required for each step. Check with others to make sure they have sufficient time to do their part, and confirm the availability of any necessary equipment and supplies.
Next, check your calendar or production schedule. If you see that you are overcommitted, either scale back your other work or ask for a latter delivery time. Customers often build in “fudge time,” which allows room for negotiation. Plan well and success will follow as you knock out key projects on time.
Forsake your folly and live, and proceed in the way of understanding (Proverbs 9:6).
Figure out an accurate time line before you commit to a delivery date.
