Do you insist that your staff accept responsibility for doing their own jobs?

Scripture: Arise! For this matter is your responsibility, but we will be with you; be courageous and act (Ezra 10:4).

Today’s Thought: Make it clear to your staff that you expect everyone to take responsibility for their own jobs, and then insist that they produce the desired results.

Helping out in a pinch can build employee morale, but don’t make a habit of doing work that should be done by someone else. Bailing out your staff will only increase their dependence on you ad reduce everyone’s effectiveness.

When employees fall short of the mark, identify what must be accomplished and set a deadline for completion. Do everything in your power to remove roadblocks, but never lose sight of the underlying principle that completing the job is the employee’s responsibility.

Offer support and training, and be available to answer questions, but don’t let your staff off the hook. In order for the entire organization to succeed, everybody must fulfill their primary responsibilities.

Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the lazy one to those who send him (Proverbs 10:26).

Offer support and training, and be available to answer questions, but don’t let your staff off the hook.
